With a box of rock salt and a bag of ice, you're good to go! This Hamilton Beach ice cteam maker is easy
to use. The kids can handle it for sure, and you get a gallon of high quality ice cream for half or less than at
the super market, (depending on what you add to it.)
It is well designed. The top only goes on one way. No need to struggle and/or jam it. If it
isn't fitting well, tweak it a little. The locking feature means that it must be properly assembled to fit
correctly and work properly.
It does take a good quantity of ice, so plan ahead and have a good supply on hand. However, it you
use too much ice and salt the mixture gets cold quicker but you get a more crystalized product. Use
less than the recommemded amount and the ice cream is a creamier texture. So adjust the salt/ice amout and
ratio to find your prefered consistency.
The spinning stops when the ice cream is done. This gives you "soft" ice cream. If you prefer firmer
simply pop it into the freezer until it has reached the firmness you prefer. By the 2nd day it is about the
same as super market ice cream.
And don't forget you can make gelato, sherbert, and frozen yogurt; all yummy!
